Elizabeth Olwen

Elizabeth Olwen is a Toronto-based surface designer. Inspired by the world around her—from her city, to the beautiful forests of Ontario, to her cherished adventures abroad — her work is driven by the desire to leave something beautiful behind with every step she takes. You can find her work around the globe, on products from decor to paper to fabric to bedding, for clients like Cloud9 Fabrics, Land of Nod, Tokyu Hands and Madison Park Greetings. Elizabeth is a lover of beautiful things and wants to spread beauty. She gets butterflies when she sees a nice colour combo. Elizabeth would get lost in patterns when she was a kid, staring into the wallpaper in her mother’s kitchen. She goes back there, when she daydreams.

What is your source(s) of inspiration, what moves you?

Nature, and its weird and wonderful ways.

Your favorite museum, your favorite drink

Victoria and Albert Museum & Margarita.

Do you work at night or during the day?

Both, but I find I do my best creative work at night!

The artist you crave for (at the moment)
What is the most amazing present you ever received?

When I was little, my mum bought me an easel to do my paintings on. I felt like a true artist!

If I say « paper » what is first coming to your mind?

Texture and the way it feels under my fingertips.

Mention a quote you feel is creatively inspiring

Slip away from everyone else at the party and go off to dance alone in the dark with your ideas” — Elizabeth Gilbert.

If you weren’t an artist, what would you be?

A florist or a baker.

Topics and causes that matter to you?

Art and design, whole-hearted living, cooking, travel.
